Beck,” the popular music manga by Harold Sakuishi, is being adapted as a live-action film. Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi (”20th Century Boys”) will be in charge of the project, with actor Hiro Mizushima in the leading role.

The manga, which was originally serialized from 2000 to 2008, tells the story of five young men who form a rock band called Beck. The protagonist in the manga was the guitarist/vocalist Yukio “Koyuki” Tanaka, but the film will instead revolve around the band’s main guitarist and leader, Ryusuke Minami.

Mizushima has been cast as Ryusuke, while Takeru Sato will play the part of Koyuki. The two previously played brothers in the drama series “Mei-chan no Shitsuji.” Playing the other members of Beck are Kenta Kiritani as the rapper Chiba, Osamu Mukai as the bassist Taira, and Aoi Nakamura as the drummer Saku.

30 original songs are being written, which will be performed by the actors themselves with real instruments. Mizushima and the others are currently undergoing special training for about a month. The movie’s climax is said to be a large-scale concert scene with the band playing on stage.

Shooting is scheduled to start in early July, with a theatrical release expected in fall 2010.

The four male lead stars of a hit Korean telenovela, “Boys Over Flowers,” are coming to the Philippines.

Korean superstars Lee Min-Ho (Jun Pyo), Kim Hyun-Joong (Ji Hoo), Kim Bum (So Yi Jeong) and Kim Joon (Song Woo Bin), or popularly called “F4,” will visit the country, “The Buzz” host Kris Aquino announced Sunday.

There is no date yet as to when the stars will arrive in the Philippines but Aquino said it is going to be “soon.”

Based on the best-selling Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango” by Yoko Kamio, the romantic story was first adapted in Taiwan as the phenomenal hit drama “Meteor Garden,” which aired on ABS-CBN in 2003. It starred Asia’s sensational boyband F4.

Meteor Garden” remains to be one of the most successful Asianovelas aired on Philippine television, with an average rating of 42.9 percent in mega Manila and a nationwide average rating of 62 percent.

South Korea’s “Boys Over Flowers,” meanwhile, garnered an average rating of 30 percent. The show had a great impact on Korean pop culture as sales of men’s cosmetics and fashion items skyrocketed and the female lead’s hairstyle ruled the fashion world.

The Korean remake of “F4″ also launched the careers of the four Asian superstars.

Aquino said the producers of the Korean show were grateful that, like Meteor Garden, it also became a hit in the Philippines.

Starting Monday, “Boys Over Flowers” will be aired at 6 p.m. before “TV Patrol World.” It takes over the timeslot of “Pinoy Bingo Night,” which will now be aired after “Tayong Dalawa.”

.02. PERSONAL NOTE: Djwiuwasnaihi! OMG~! I really don’t know what to say… :a46: I can’t believe they will visit the Philippines soon. :bd29: I’m pretty sure that all Filipino fans of Boys Over Flower will get hype with this. This is the bestest news from ABS-CBN. But the only thing that I could think of right now is… will the F4 Korean will spent their time here for several days or is it just for 1 day? or less than that? Aissh! I hope they will visit Wowowee, A.S.A.P, and the other TV Shows of ABS-CBN. Another thing is it would be great if they will have an autograph session, handshaking session, fanmeeting also besides an interview with Kris Aquino. WOOT! Okay, I’ll stop spazzing now~ I’ll definitely wait for the day of their arrival. HAHAHA!

Jan Di will be heartbroken again, as Jun Pyo forgets her in episode 23 (March 24).

A representative from the drama revealed that there would be one more guest star (following Kim Young Ok) before the drama ends. Although the role has yet to be cast, the character is the girl known as Umi in Hana Yori Dango. While Tsukasa (Jun Pyo) lost his memory of Tsukushi (Jan Di) following an accident, Umi stepped in to befriend him. She discouraged Tsukushi from pressuring Tsukasa to regain his memory. She started falling in love with Tsukasa; hence, tried to interfere between him and Tsukushi.

The character is set to appear in episodes 23 and 24.
